Welcome to Medway Death Cafe
A local initiative to support those experiencing
loss, grief and bereavement and to explore death, dying and our own mortality.

Welcome to this website. I warmly welcome you.

This website was set up to share information and support people through the process of death, dying, loss, and grief, and create a safe and supportive space, here, and in our online and face to face events for members to talk openly and freely about these important topics.

Our members are a diverse, multicultural group of all ages and backgrounds and of all faiths and none.

Death is a subject that many find challenging to discuss, yet death is the great equaliser and the one thing will affect all of us. One thing in life is guaranteed; and that is we will all die one day. Yet many of us are not comfortable talking about death or in facing our own mortality. This is is why the Medway Death Cafe is such an important initiative for us to come together and talk about this. We may be a local group but our influence is already beginning to extend far and wide across the globe, especially with our online events.

To support you with our Death Cafe, we have a series of exciting programmes and events coming up over the course of the year. Please visit our events page to find out more about them as we will be updating this page regularly.

Please also feel free to leave a comment on our comments page, or to ask any questions you may have on death, dying and loss.

Thank you again for taking the time to visit this page.

I send you my love and appreciation.

A bit about Shila Jassal

Shila founded Let’s Get Chatty- Medway Death Cafe in Dec 2022 after receiving a strong inner message that one was needed again in Medway, Kent. From that first impulse, when she set the group up, it has exploded and grown locally and beyond showing how the need for one is so important. She now regularly runs monthly death cafe groups, both in person and online.

Shila is a qualified counsellor and grief therapist of many years standing, working with private clients and with the organisation, CRUSE. She works with adults, children and young people impacted by loss, as well as being a second responder during major incidents. She has supported those affected by the London Bridge bombing and Grenfell Fire in the UK, as well as abroad with the Tsunami disaster in Sri Lanka where she worked as a bereavement counsellor helping families affected by the disaster.

As well as being a grief therapist, Shila is also a practicing soul midwife (death doula), a complimentary therapist, spiritual life coach and Compassion Key Master Practitioner. She works with compassion to support clients through major life changes and transition points to bring them to a more integrated and empowered state of being.

Shila’s vision is to develop the Medway Death Cafe initiative in her area and to eventually set up a healing centre in the UK which holistically and compassionately supports those coming to the end of life.
